Origins of the Supra Footwear

From the neo-classic Skytops to the gold 14k Chad Muska model that sold out in a nano-second, Supra has managed to spontaneously combust in a market place swamped with black, lo-fi blando-sneakers. sneakerfreaker

Supra is now one of the top sneakers in the sneaker/shoe industry - especially in the skateboarding market. Supra footwear was launched in 2005 by the creative idea of Angel Cabada.

The Angel Cabada Story

Angel grew up in Orange, County, California where all his love for skateboarding began. He's had a few go at a couple regular jobs like taco bell and McDonalds, but nothing lasted very long. He just then decided to break the mold and make clothes with some of his friends.

He first started with a brand called TSA. That lasted for about ten years before he split up with his partner, and in 2002 he started doing KR3W, which is still doing under One Distribution, which is actually the umbrella of KR3W and Supra Footwear. Supra only launched in 2005, so it’s fairly new, still a baby.

Origins of the label

The original plan was to make a KR3W footwear. However he thought about it, and realised it would have been a big conflict of interest with people that they work with. So he re-thought about it one more time and made a whole new company which he named Supra Footwear which he had to explain to his partners - because he had already dumped 100 grand on sampling and they just looked at him and thought he was crazy.

The name Supra is Latin for "above and beyond"

His first Men's Supra Sneakers were the Skytops. When Angel first made the Skytop, a lot of people made fun of him. But it sold so fast it's clear who had the last laugh.

Among those who wear Supra are Steve Aoki, Chad Muska, and Samantha Ronson who wears Women's Supra Sneakers. One reason for their popularity is that people respond to the genuineness of the brand. Real skaters wear them because real skaters like them.

When Angel made the Gold 14k Edition with Chad Muska, the consumer interest was as high as interest generally associated with Nike. The 413 Silver Edition sold out in thirty minutes. Supra's NS line was released in fashion driven trade shows instead of skate shops.

A crowning moment for Supra was when Little Wayne and Jay Z wore Skytops at the BET awards.

The Supra Sneaker line is a great sneaker that not only looks awesome, but is a genuine skate shoe.
